I led the effort for our Base Building kit, including visuals, material details, and designing the actual pieces that would be implemented in game. We decided quiclly to go with a chunky, brutalist style for a few reasons: it fit well with our grid system in game, the materials were relatively simple and tileable, it was super modular, and it looks cool and distinctive! We went with a similar industrial look with our lights, while providing players with several different styles and shapes to work with. We made extensive use of all of the in-game pieces in our marketing art and trailers.
