The Smelter was one of our earliest machine designs in Techtonica. I was responsible for concepting, modeling, texturing, and implementing all assets in game, building off of some of the pre-production work we did for the pitch demo, but evolving the design to fit our new specs. Because it was one of our first machines, we used it to guide both visual direction and pipeline for VFX, as well as overall asset standards. Later on we added the Blast Smelter, a variation of the original machine that uses a different fueling system. The goal was to create a design that looked similar to the original, but acted very differently when it was animating. I provided concepts and direction to the outsourcing studio that modeled and textured the assets.
